Max's Day Out

Our friend, Nicola, took Max and another friend, Nithit (Sammy is his soon to be American name) out last Sunday to church and a fun day away from the orphanage. Here's what she said about their day...

I wanted to write and tell you about the trip. You have seen most of the pictures and i will add the movies too very soon.
Ok so we picked them up and Tankhun wore his motorbike shirt. His jeans were good fit and only rolled up on the feet ones but he has at present very little bottom to hold his trousers up so they were a little loose. I think he looked very handsome. Good choice Mum. Tankhun was so much more calm in the taxi, probably because Nithit was shy and reserved and Joanneke and Baimon were there. He knew them from the previous trip but needed to warm up a bit. They were both good holding my hand when asked too. We went into church and were very early so decided to run to Starbucks and get a drink. We walked there and that was quite slow (more because Nithit legs are short) and we stopped to see many dogs which Baimon loves. Tankhun liked some of the dogs but needed to be asked to pat them gently. We saw one like your dog. He was far less nervous this time and all the different sizes didn't bother him. If they moved quick he was more shy but happy. Nithit was less keen but neither were as scared as Nok last time. We got a mango smoothie and some dutch waffle things which the boys both liked. We got a lift back to church the short distance as the boys were too slow and Tankhun sat on my friends knee and helps stir the golf cart. He was very clever crossing his hands and watching the turns in the road and he totally believed he was in control which he was not.
In the service they played with an aquadoodle, cars and some construction bricks and were good. The odd chatter and noise but o.k. It was funny when we sung Tankhun would get to his feet and want to stand on the chair and then when finished singing get down and play more. No drawing this time as they were happy with the other things. sorry.
Forgot to say... He said he needed the toilet so i took him and Nithit came too. They were both in nappies but Tankhuhn sat on the toilet. I turned to get hold of Nithits hand as he was looking nervous and Tankhuns bottom went in the toilet. sat him up and told him to sit forward but he thought this was funny so sat back again. He was just legs and arms and head. His t-shirt didn't get wet thank goodness, just his bare bot. I advice you get one of those toilet seats that make the hole smaller. He was not hurt i promise and found it quite funny. I changed the nappies and our day continued.
After church the played on the stage and climbed steps and jumped off the platform as you can see int he pictures. Tankhun was definitely the leader and often Nithit was just behind him. They coped each other doing silly things and were very sweet. Lively too. I'm glad your not adopting them both as they would keep you busy for sure. We headed off to the mall in a taxi which is when both the boys got a little sleepy. Tankhun managed to stay awake and was fine for the whole day. Nithit had those 5 minutes and then carried one without trouble. We had food in a Italian restaurant where Tankhun showed Lizzy (my friend) his photo books. We listened to his book from you and he was so focused and reacting. It was still hard to hear as is the case all over Thailand i think. Background noise is everywhere here. He was happy. He didn't eat much and didn't seem interested. He wanted bread and butter, which we gave. I tried dipping a little sauce from the pasta on it but that piece of bread was boycotted. I was not worried, he ate 3 or 4 pieces of french bread and some of the bits. He was not complaining of being hungry and seemed happy watching everything. Tankhun looked at Baimons photo album too and saw her in snow and with relatives and was interested. We watched Pizza being made and they were all interested.
They got in a bit of a silly spell after food and you see the pictures of that. We went at Bankhuns request to see the colour changing large balls that were hanging down from the ceiling in the department store and then carried on to look at the toys. We say battery controlled big cars and airplanes and their was a Noah's ark balance game which was funny. Tankhun liked the animals but his interest was short lived.
There were a few times when they sat or laid on the floor but it was short lived with a firm request to come hold the hand. They were good boys apart from those but they were natural for three year olds.
As both boys were still wide awake and looking happy we went to the ball pool like last time. Tankhun remembered the hand bands for the colours and got straight to it. They were so sweet. Then we went in the climbing bit and they were off. Lizzy and I took turns to go up and keep track of them while the other tried to get pictures. Tankhun definitely found it harder than Nithit because of his hand. Nithits club feet have been corrected and have no problem now where Tankhun was restricted a bit but he didn't give up. They didn't worry and stay close to Lizzy but they did keep coming back to me or looking for me. After this we went home and this time Tankhun was not travel sick or sleepy. they went into the ward and took the clothes off for me to take and wash and went for a shower.
They told their teacher they went with me to balls. they said they enjoyed it and she said they were both smiling lots. Today i was going through the physio block and they both came running over with huge smiles. I love my job and am glad they seemed to relate me to a good day out.
Thank you for the clothes he loved them and the book was precious to him.
God bless. Nicola xxxx
